Eshel Avraham. Furth, 1701. First Edition

Eshel Avraham - important kabbalistic book with a commentary on the introduction to the Zohar on chumashim Bereishit and Shemot, by the kabbalist Rabbi Mordechai Ashkenazi of Jerusalem, disciple of the renowned kabbalist Rabbi Avraham Rewigo, one of the kabbalistic pious Jews of Italy. The author called this work Eshel Avraham after his rabbi. An introduction called Hakdamat Sefer Eshel Avraham is at the beginning of the book; it was also printed as a self-contained booklet. There is a large illustration of the "ilan hakodesh" on leaves 45-46, on facing pages. There are also other illustrations and charts. The title page is illustrated with engravings of Moshe and Aharon and the war between David and Goliath.

On the upper left corner of each of the first leaves [1-22] there is a single word. All of them together comprise an original owner's inscription, ascribing ownership of the book to " ... the important woman, the leader, the widow Yachet Bayla ..."

186 leaves. Tears, some of which are restored. Stains and wear. Original leather binding.
