Siddur: Ovrei Orach. Vilna, [1887]. Miniature. Extraordinarily Rare
Miniature siddur: Ovrei Orach [Passers-by] per nusach Ar"i.
As its name suggests, it is comprised of all the prayers necessary for the annual cycle, so that travelers who occasionally find themselves in places without a Jewish community or a synagogue can find all they need therein. Includes prayers for all days of the year: weekdays, Shabbats and festivals. Tikkunei Shabbat, Pirkei Avot, Kiddush Levanah, Sefirat HaOmer, Birkot HaNehenin, haftarah for public fasts, the Passover Haggadah, Hoshanot, Selichot and many more. There is a chart of moladot for 1887-1889 on leaf 109. There is also a prayer for the welfare of the Emperor Alexander Alexandrovitch (Alexander III), his wife Maria and their son and successor, Nikolai. The siddur is a miniature pocket edition designed for ease of travel.
This siddur is not listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book, and is not found in the National Library collection. There is a similar siddur, printed in Vilna in 1903, which indicates that it is based on a publication from 1887, apparently the siddur before us.
283 leaves, 7 cm. Fine condition. Aging stains on isolated leaves. Reinforcements with very slight damage to text on the first two leaves and the last leaf. Without binding.
