Mishnah Berurah, Part V - Special Variant with 'מוגה' ['Proofread']. Rare
Mishnah Berurah, Hilchot Pesach by Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen of Radin. Warsaw, 1902. First edition. Special variant. Contains the inscription 'מוגה' ['proofread'] in the Chafetz Chaim's hand.
Special variant of the first edition. In all copies, this part [Part V] includes the laws of Passover and later, the laws of Yom Tov, which accordingly appear on the title page. In the copy before us, "Hilchot Pesach" [only] is written on the title page, and it ends with siman 494, on leaf 101. The more common copies continue into the following siman, siman 495. This copy contains changes in the format of the aforementioned page, and it does not include the subsequent siman. Clearly, the book before us came off the printing press this way, and it is not part of a regular copy.
Concerned for theft and fraud, the Chafetz Chaim vigilantly examined every book for printing errors before it was sold. Each checked book received the inscription, 'מוגה' ['proofread']. Many of these inscriptions have disappeared over the years due to the re-binding of the books or erasure. The flyleaf bears the inscription 'מוגה'.
Fine condition. Minimal worming holes. Original binding.
